Evictions are on the rise, rents are skyrocketing, and support networks are destabilized as the housing market restructures to accommodate the influx of students and professionals.

Despite many missed opportunities, the report stresses that it is not too late for Université de Montréal to take action and will be calling on the University’s administration to adopt measures to respond to gentrification in the neighborhood- namely by collaborating with community groups, offering on-campus student housing, and supporting social and community housing projects.

Confirmed speakers:

Shazma Abdulla, MES in Social Policy and Planning at York University and member of the Parc-Extension Anti-Eviction Mapping Project

Amy Darwish, Community Organizer at the Comité d’action de Parc-Extension

Emanuel Guay, PhD student in Sociology at Université du Québec à Montréal and member of the Parc-Extension Anti-Eviction Mapping Project

Norma Rantisi, Professor in Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University

Alessandra Renzi, Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Concordia University and member of the Parc-Extension Anti-Eviction Mapping Project

-30-

Contact:

Alessandra Renzi, Parc-Extension Anti-Eviction Mapping Project: 617-982-8824 or alessandra.renzi@concordia.ca

Amy Darwish, Comité d’action de Parc-Extension: 514-992-1662 or cape@cooptel.qc.ca

Source:

*Parc-Extension Anti-Eviction Mapping Project

*Comité d’action de Parc-Extension
http://comitedactionparcex.org/

*Réseau de recherche-action communautaire de Parc Extension https://communityactionresearchparcex.ca/members/

Campus MIL: As new rector steps into role at UdM, new report documents serious impact…

Read the postMedia Advisory Report 2020

[5

post-259","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","excerpt","zoom","even","excerpt-0
["GET
